Garden Calender

This calender is an aid to your gardening experience and depending on the type of gardening you do can vary greatly. We have kept the list relatively short and general to cater for this fact but we will overtime be enlarging this area to increase the level of detail to help you whether you are a customer or just visiting our site.

  1. Watch out for late frosts. Protect tender plants
  2. Plant out summer bedding at the end of the month (except in cold areas)
  3. Collect rainwater and investigate ways to recycle water for irrigation
  4. Regularly hoe off weeds from now on
  5. Mow lawns weekly
  6. Check for nesting birds before clipping hedges
  7. Lift and divide overcrowded clumps of daffodils and other spring-flowering bulbs
  8. Watch out for viburnum beetle and lily beetle grubs
  1. Many jobs from May (lawns, hoeing etc) plus;
  2. Position summer hanging baskets and containers outside
  3. Plant out summer bedding
  4. Stake tall or floppy plants
  5. Prune many spring-flowering shrubs
  6. Shade greenhouses to keep them cool and prevent scorch
  1. Check clematis for signs of clematis wilt
  2. Place conservatory plants outside now that it is warm
  3. Water tubs and new plants if dry, but be water-wise
  4. Deadhead bedding plants and repeat-flowering perennials, to ensure continuous flowering
  5. Clear algae, blanket weeds and debris from ponds, and keep them topped up
  6. Give the lawn a quick-acting summer feed, especially if they have not been given a spring feed
  1. Regular jobs from May to July plus;
  2. Prune Wisteria
  3. Don’t delay summer pruning restricted fruits
  4. Deadhead flowering plants regularly
  5. Collect seed from your favourite plants
